The Association for Applied and Clinical Sociology (AACS) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our data practices regarding Personal Data and other information that we collect in connection with:

  2.  aacsmembers.net– the subscription-based website for paying members
  3. Recorded AACS annual conferences, year-round webinars, and professional development workshops

Collection of information

AACS collects and uses Personal Data that can be used to identify individual members. This information is collected to send email announcements, manage memberships and other subscriptions on aacsmembers.net, and provide membership support.

Information Provided to AACS by Members

AACS collects Personal Data provided by members when purchasing products and at the point of interaction with AACS leadership. Personal data includes mailing/billing addresses, telephone numbers, names, and organizational affiliation. Members may provide Personal data at any point in the following processes

  • Completing AACS surveys
  • Purchasing annual memberships
  • Registering for annual conferences and workshops, and webinars
  • Emailing AACS leadership

Information Provided to AACS by Other Sources

AACS may receive information about you from publicly available databases and websites. We may combine those with information about you to target email campaigns to your interests and expand our outreach.

Personal data from third-party databases and websites will not be used posted on our websites without your authorization.

Automatically Collected Data

Our websites collect information about your electronic devices and visits. Automatically Collected data in the form of cookies, Internet Protocol (IP) address tracking/URL tracking, and other tools (“Tracking Technologies”) are used to maintain optimal membership experience. These Automatically Collected Data may include: browser information, operating system, length and number of visits to our websites, date/time stamp, and search terms used. No Personal Data is used in the collection of Automatically Collected Data.

We use Personal Data submitted through membership and conference purchases to maintain optimal website paywalls, website design, and customer support.

Website Maintenance and Improvement

AACS collects Automatically Collected Data to maintain and improve website functionality, analyze website health, diagnose technical issues, maintain website security, and notify you of any changes to our cookie policy.

Mailing Lists 

AACS maintains several mailing lists of current and past members that can send materials of professional and AACS interest. AACS maintains mailing lists for all past/present members and current members only.

AACS retains a list of past and current members. This list does not include any personal data beyond name and email address. You may opt out of inclusion in the mailing list. AACS does not sell or rent email addresses. This list is maintained to send marketing opportunities of professional interest, advertisements regarding the AACS annual conference, and upcoming webinars.

Correspondence

If you correspond with AACS leadership via email, the postal service, our web forms, and other forms of communication, we may retain the correspondence and the information it contains. In addition, we may use the information for business purposes, including responding to your inquiry, notifying you of AACS-related opportunities, and other marketing purposes.

Demographic Information

Providing demographic information is voluntary.  AACS committees use demographic information entered on membership/conference forms and surveys. In addition, editors of the Journal of Applied and Social Science identify candidates for volunteer positions and opportunities. If you do not wish your information to be used for these purposes, you may choose not to submit it.

Directory of Certified Practitioners

AACS maintains an online directory of Certified Sociological Practitioners (C.S.P) and Certified Clinical Sociologists (C.C.S). Information is collected voluntarily. Members may opt-out of being listed in the directory. In addition, members in this online directory have the right to opt-out of publically listing email, phone, and social media handles/URLs. 

Service Data. Our use of information collected on behalf of our partner websites is 1) limited to the purpose of providing the service for which the partner has engaged the ASA and 2) is governed by our contract with that partner and the partner’s own privacy policies. AACS may share Personal Data with partners to fulfill its services and contractual obligations as part of this engagement.

Disclosure of Information

In addition, we restrict access to Personal Data to AACS leadership and contractors who need to know the information to operate, develop, or improve our services. Unfortunately, no transmission of Personal Data over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

We collect, store and process the information from our websites in the US. If you are outside the US, then your data and other information will be transferred to the US. The data privacy and data protection laws outside your country may offer less protection than the laws in your country. By using our services, websites, or otherwise providing us with your Personal Data, you agree to transfer your Personal Data as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to such cross-border transfers of your Personal Data, please do not submit it through our websites.

Retention of Your Information

We retain Personal Data collected through the various means to process on your behalf to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes for archival purposes, and enforce our agreements with you.

Following termination of your membership, we may retain your data but maintain it with the same level of security and confidentially as a current member according to this Privacy Policy and as required by applicable law. In addition, we have the right to delete all of your Personal Data after the termination of your account without notice to you.

ASA uses cookies and other technologies to analyze trends, administer the websites, improve users’ experience, track users’ movements around the websites, gather analytics and demographic information about our user base as a whole, and for marketing.

This Privacy Policy addresses only use on aacsnet.net and aacsmembers.net. These websites may contain links to other websites. We are not liable for the misuse of Personal Data on third-party websites. We encourage that you read the privacy and cookie policies on these third-party sites.

If you choose to “like” or share information from a website through any Social Media Sites and/or if you are a member of a Social Media Site, the interfaces on our Websites may allow the Social Media Site to connect your website visit to your Personal Data. Therefore, you should review the privacy policy of that Social Media Site before choosing to access and use any Social Media Sites, including interacting with our pages on those sites.

Your Rights with Regard to Your information

We respect your privacy rights and provide you with reasonable access to the personal data you may have provided through your use of the websites. If you wish to access, amend, or remove certain personal data we hold about you, you may do so at any time by contacting AACS leadership.

You have the right to unsubscribe to AACSlead@gmail marketing lists by selecting the unsubscribe button at the bottom of the email. Additionally, you may request to be removed from the mailing lists anytime by emailing the AACS webmaster.

Private information retained by the AACSmembers.net paywall and any other online databases can be removed upon request to the AACS webmaster at any time. Please note that by doing so, you relinquish access to services maintained behind the paywall effective immediately.
