Sociology Beyond the Academy: Strategies for Searching for and Working in Non-Faculty Positions

For more than two decades, Dr. Rachel Ivie has worked outside of academia doing sociological research at a non-profit organization. Based on her experiences, she will give tips on searching for non-academic jobs, writing cover letters and resumes, and crafting a Linkedin profile that is effective for nonacademic audiences.

Rachel Ivie is a Senior Research Fellow at the American Institute of Physics (AIP). She has worked with the Statistical Research Center, previously serving as Director. Dr. Ivie received her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she specialized in research methods, statistics, and gender.
